Ice Hockey Skates – Top Selection from Bauer & CCM
Bauer and CCM are among the leading manufacturers of ice hockey skates worldwide. Both brands stand for maximum comfort, lightweight construction, modern design, and premium materials. Professional and amateur players alike benefit from optimal fit, stability, and protection. For beginners, Bauer & CCM also offer affordable models with good comfort.
Important note on sizing: Choosing the right skate depends on foot length, fit, and width. Bauer uses the 3D Fit System (Fit 1/2/3), while CCM distinguishes between Tapered, Regular, Wide. In addition, many models are still available in the classic widths D (Regular) and EE (Wide).
The following overview combines Bauer 3D Fits, CCM Fits, and the common EU sizes including foot length and skate size.
| Brand | Fit | Foot Type | Volume | Description |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bauer | Fit 1 | Narrow foot | Low instep | Tight fit; very agile. Similar to former narrow D width. |
| Bauer | Fit 2 | Average foot | Medium | Balanced fit; closest to classic D width. |
| Bauer | Fit 3 | Wide foot | High instep | Lots of volume; comparable to EE width. |
| CCM | Tapered | Narrow foot | Low | Snug fit for maximum agility (≈ Bauer Fit 1). |
| CCM | Regular | Average foot | Medium | For most players (≈ Bauer Fit 2). |
| CCM | Wide | Wide foot | High | Lots of room; ideal for wide feet (≈ Bauer Fit 3 / EE). |
D & EE widths (classic): D = Regular (normal width), EE = Wide (broad). Narrow feet: choose Fit 1 or D; wide feet/high instep: choose Fit 3 or EE.

Place your foot on a piece of paper, draw the outline with the pen held right at the edge (not under the foot, not outside). Measure from heel to the longest toe. Do not add extra length! The Bauer & CCM charts already allow for enough space. The secure fit comes from correct lacing.
1) Open the skate wide, leave the top eyelets free at first. 2) Slide your foot in, push heel back. 3) Lace evenly from bottom to top. 4) Only tie the top eyelets last. This ensures the best fit.
Many Bauer & CCM skates are thermoformable. They naturally adapt while skating. To speed up: Preheat oven to 80–90 °C, turn off, place skates inside for 5–8 minutes, then put on, lace properly and sit still. Important: Do not stand on the blades, and always follow manufacturer instructions. Alternatively: Use the thermoform service at Hockeyzentrale.
Bauer uses Fit 1/2/3, CCM uses Tapered/Regular/Wide. Comparison: Fit 1 ≈ Tapered (narrow/low), Fit 2 ≈ Regular (medium), Fit 3 ≈ Wide (broad/high). In addition, many models also come in D (Regular) and EE (Wide) widths.
Conclusion & Recommendation: With proper foot measurement, correct lacing, the right fit system (Bauer or CCM), and a professional first sharpening, you are ready to hit the ice. A wide selection & great prices for Bauer & CCM skates can be found at Hockeyzentrale & Hockeyoffice.
